17-year-old singer Noel Kharman released a video of her most recent work, a remix of Adele’s “Hello” and Fayrouz’s “Keefak Inta,” seamlessly fusing Western and Eastern styles.
Her soothing vocals have attracted over 70,000 views on the mashup video, while her YouTube page has 1,800 subscribers thus far.
Kharman, a Palestinian, has been singing and performing in front of audiences since she was only ten years old, according to her Facebook page. Her first performance was at a local festival in the Druze village of Isfiya in northern Israel.
The combination of Western and Arab tunes is not unfamiliar to the world’s music stage, as the trend has gained much traction over the last decade, making both musical styles more accessible to both Western and Eastern audiences around the globe.
Kharman’s video, the latest installation in this fusion of art styles, reminds us of all the forgotten realms where usually opposing sides can find common ground.
